Why Most Favours Get Left Behind
Walk around a reception at the end of the night and you can see which favours were wanted: they are gone from the tables. The ones left behind were usually perfectly nice but forgettable, a product chosen because it was popular rather than because it meant something. Guests are polite, so they take a favour and then quietly leave it in the coat check or the car.
Instead of asking what is trending, ask whether guests will keep it. These five questions make that practical.
The Five-Question Keep Test
- Is it personal? A name, a date, a photo or a message from the couple turns an object into a memory. Generic items are easy to leave behind.
- Will it be seen? Favours that live on a fridge, a shelf or a desk are reminders every day. Things that need to be eaten or opened on the spot are enjoyed once.
- Is it easy to carry home? After a long night, guests do not want anything fragile or bulky. Flat and light travels well.
- Does it suit the room? Choose a design that matches your colours and style so it looks intentional at the table.
- Does every age group get it? Grandparents, friends and children should each find something they would keep.
If an idea passes four or five, it is a strong candidate. If it passes two, keep looking.
Applying the Test to Common Choices
- Edible treats. Pleasant, but enjoyed once and personal only if custom-labelled.
- Candles and small decor. Often kept, but can be fragile and rarely personal.
- Printed cards. Low cost and easy to carry; personal if they carry a photo or message.
- Custom magnets. Flat, light, personal with wording or a photo and seen daily on a fridge. They pass all five questions when well designed.
This is not to say every wedding should choose magnets. It is to show how to compare options fairly.
Combining a Planned Favour With a Live One
A printed favour is planned: you choose the wording and design in advance. A live photo magnet is spontaneous: guests are photographed during the party and take home a magnet of themselves, printed on the spot. Many couples use both, a custom favour at each place setting and a roaming photographer in the room. The first reflects the couple; the second reflects the night. Live packages start at $499 for one hour, and any live booking includes 10 percent off your favour order.
Practical Details
- Custom favour magnets are $4.50 each for 50 to 99, $3.25 each for 100 to 249 and $2.50 each for 250 to 499, with a custom quote at 500 or more.
- Design and a digital proof are included, and nothing is printed until you approve.
- Order at least three weeks before the wedding; a month or more is better.
- Order about 10 percent over your headcount.
A Timeline for Couples
- Six to eight months out: set a per-guest favour budget alongside your other decor decisions.
- Three to four months out: choose the concept using the keep test and decide on wording.
- Six to eight weeks out: send your wording, colours and photos for design.
- Four weeks out: approve the proof and place the final order.
- One week out: receive, count and hand over to the venue or the person setting tables.
Questions to Settle With Your Partner
Before you order, agree on three things: whether the favour should carry your names and date or a message of thanks, whether you want the same favour for everyone or a different one for the head table and parents, and whether you want a live photo magnet experience as well. Settling these early avoids last-minute changes and keeps the proof process short.
Bilingual Weddings
Many Montréal weddings have guests who speak French, English or both, plus relatives who read another language. Plan the favour wording with that in mind. A short line in two languages is easy to read and shows consideration. We can set text in English, French, Hebrew and 52+ other languages.
